"As a cancer survivor myself, I was very enthusiastic about the presentation regarding CAREpath at an OTIP conference I attended in September. As Unit President I was determined to pass along the pamphlet to every member in my unit.

When extended to include survivors I immediately contacted CAREpath. Unfortunately I also received the news that the cancer was back shortly after that. I can honestly say that I have found the whole staff helpful but especially the nurse with whom I have contact. She encouraged me to be actively involved in my treatment by providing me with questions to ask my medical team. When I was fortunate enough to get a spot on a clinical study, the fact that she knew the doctor in charge and had positive feedback on him was reassuring.

I am in contact with her before and after my chemo treatments and she has guided me with helpful suggestions for coping with side effects and nutritional problems.

My medical team is great and because it is a clinical study, also very quick to address any glitch in my health, but having the CAREpath nurse at the end of a phone or computer has been that extra support that I need at this time. I have also been able to contact her about my fears and to just have someone there to whom I can vent. You want your life to be more than talking about your cancer. I try to laugh every day, to walk when I can, to cook for my family (or defrost that frozen dinner) and to find joy in the days when I am feeling 'okay.' On days when I'm not, I know I can contact my CAREpath nurse and get the support I need that day. What have you got to lose by using this service? Better to tell you what you have to gain... you gain a knowledgeable ear, a person who will assist you in your fight with cancer. God bless you and bring you to health once more."
